Pastor: Fr. Joe Herzing

Fr. Joe joined the Newman team in July 2018.  He grew up on a dairy farm in Milaca and still goes there to help with most chores (except milking cows).  He graduated from Metro State University with a degree in History and went to seminary at both St. John’s University and the University of St. Thomas.  He was previously assigned to the parishes in Little Falls.  He enjoys the wonder of the night sky and the wind in his hair when riding his motorcycle (not too much wind though, since he has on a helmet).  Contact Fr. Business Manager: Ken Bettin

Ken joined the Newman team in July 2016.  He has a Business Management and Economics degree from Moorhead State University and has spent his entire adult life in a small business environment.  Ken and his wife, Sandy, live in Avon, MN and enjoy boating, fishing, hunting, golf, and most outdoor activities.  They are blessed to have 8 grandchildren who are the love of their lives.  Contact Ken by email.

Coordinator of Music: Stacy Ellens

Stacy joined the Newman team spring 2019.  She has an undergraduate degree from the College of St. Benedict and a masters degree from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, both in Piano Performance.  She has worked with liturgical music programs since high school and loves to give piano lessons.  Stacy and her husband, Jesse, have two energetic young boys.  She enjoys quilting and shopping for a good bargain, and in the summer you’ll find her camping with her family!  Contact Stacy by email.

Interim Director of Campus Ministry: Sarah Stang

Sarah joined the Newman team in September, 2020. She was born and raised in Thompson, ND and graduated from Saint Cloud State University with her bachelor’s in Communication Studies with a double emphasis in Marketing and Hospitality. Sarah has been involved in Newman Center student activities throughout her years at SCSU and has been apart of the Peer Minister staff. She is excited to be back as a staff member! REP Coordinator: Sherry Johnson

Sherry joined the Newman team fall 2019. She was born and raised in Little Falls, MN and still has not left.  She married Tony on August 17, 2013. They are blessed with 4 amazing children, Zachariah, Brookelynn, Calvin, and AJ and they keep their lives very busy!  She is currently back in school here at SCSU for Elementary Education.  She enjoys being outside and spending time with her family, cherishing every moment they have together.  She also enjoys being part of the Newman Center and looks forward to being a bigger part of it as a staff member!  Contact Sherry by email.

Grounds and Maintenance Manager: Tony Johnson

Tony joined the Newman team June 2019. He is married to Sherry with four children, Zachariah, Brookelynn, Calvin, and AJ.  He enjoys playing/watching/coaching/officiating most sports, especially baseball, golf, and basketball.  He doesn’t hunt or fish, however he does love the water.  He was born at St. Joseph’s hospital in St. Paul.  Tony was baptized and received his First Communion at St. Stanislaus in St. Paul.  He was confirmed as an adult at Holy Family in Little Falls.  Tony and Sherry were married by Fr. Director of Campus Ministry and Parish Life: Joan Spring

Joan joined our pastoral team in August of 2012.  Joan has an undergraduate degree in theology from the College of St. Benedict and her Master of Arts in Scripture from St. John’s University School of Theology.  She is energized by the children and youth at the Newman Center and grows ever more aware of the ongoing nature of faith when she talks with college students.  On summer nights, Joan enjoys a fire with friends, her perfect puppy, a book of Spanish poetry and, of course, s’mores!   Contact Joan by email.​

Office Manager – Amy Tembreull

Amy joined the Newman team in June 2020. She was raised in Little Falls and still lives there with her husband, Tony. Amy has a degree in Surgical Technology and loves working with and helping people. She enjoys gardening, sitting by a fire with family and friends, bird watching and snowy nights.
